“In 2018 the main tasks of the Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) are related to continuation of the construction of the Struma and Hemus Motorways, the Sofia ring road and the launching of the projects Kalotina – Sofia, Vidin – Botevgrad, Ruse– Veliko Tarnovo, extension of the road Burgas – Sunny Beach, completion of the Gabrovo bypass and modernization of the tunnels on the TNT network in Bulgaria,” said Eng. Svetoslav Glosov, member of the Management Board of RIA and Honorary Chairman of the Bulgarian Construction Chamber. He was a special guest at the extension board meeting of the Chamber and presented to the management of the organization the strategic road projects of the Agency for the year. According to him, in the coming months RIA will announce tenders for a number of infrastructure projects. For three stretches of Hemus Motorway with a total length of 50 km it is planned to launch public procurement for selection of contractor and construction supervision. These are Boaza – road junction Dermantsi, road junction Dermantsi – road junction Kalenik and from road junction Kalenik to the intersection with the road Pleven – Lovech. “The motorway will be fully implemented with funds from the republican budget and the goal in its design is maximum optimization of the route according to the relief it will pass through,” explained Eng. Glosov. He also said that RIA is planning to assign engineering of the road section Pleven – Lovech to its intersection with I-5 Ruse – Veliko Tarnovo, which is 85 km. The aim is to start the activities on it in 2019.
Another strategic site is Ruse – Veliko Tarnovo Motorway. This year the Agency plans to launch the engineering tender procedures for the section from Ruse to the bypass of Byala and the Byala bypass road. Their total length is 75 km, which is more than half the track of the motorway.
A key project for Northwest Bulgaria is the road Vidin – Botevgrad. In 2018 will be launched tenders for selection of contractors for construction and supervision of two sections from Vidin to Ruzhintsi – 52 km, and from Mezdra to Botevgrad – 33 km.
