“I hope OP Environment 2014 – 2020 will be approved in March. Currently we are clearing the questions concerning priority axis “Water”. Technical meetings with EC are being held and I expect soon to have a positive decision,” said in reply to a question of “Stroitel” newspaper Minister of Environment and Water Ivelina Vasileva. Over BGN 524 million are allocated for axis “Waste” in the new program. Vasileva together with Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, George Kremlis, head of Directorate General Environment in EC, Tomislav Donchev, Deputy Prime Minister for European Funds and Economic Policy and Yordanka Fandakova, Mayor of Sofia Municipality participated in the monthly inspection of the construction of the plant for mechanical biological treatment of waste with production of RDF.
“I hope to convince the European Commission also in our new plan for Struma Motorway. Our goal is to save money and with it to build a large part of the motorway Hemus, said the Prime Minister.
In late March start the cold samples in the building for separation of the waste plant. In May will be completed the electrical system and the plant for mechanical-biological treatment will be ready in the autumn of 2015. “Builders know that the penalty for slippage from the schedule is BGN 200 thousand per day,” said the mayor.
The project consists of five buildings. The aim is to reduce waste, its processing and the production of RDF. The covered area is 36 thousand square meters and the total area – 106 thousand square meters. Treatment processes are automated. The first building is for reception, the second one – for mechanical separation, the third one – for biological drying, the fourth one – for production of RDF (refuse derived fuel) and the fifth one – for loading and storage of the fuel. The plant will process 410 thousand tons of waste per year. Project contractor is consortium Aktor AD – Helektor AD.
