A public discussion on “EU at a Crossroads: Challenges and prospects for the most successful peace project in history” was held at the House of Europe in Sofia on the occasion of Europe Day and 70th anniversary of the end of World War II. The forum was organized by the European Federalist Movement and the Union of European Federalists in cooperation with the European Parliament Information Office in Bulgaria.
It was attended by Bulgarian MEP Eva Paunova from EPP and Vice-President of the International European Movement, Iliana Iotova from the group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) and Iskra Mihaylova from ALDE. The discussion was attended also by H.E. Tom van Oorschot – Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Thomas Pfanne – head of the Economic Department at the German Embassy in Bulgaria. The topics discussed were related to democracy and solidarity, increasing the capacity of the EU and the opportunities for economic growth in the community. The focus of the debate was the refugee wave to Europe, the aftermath of the financial crisis and differences of the regions in the community.
