Rehabilitated Sofia Central Railway Station opened
In modernization of the station were invested over BGN 62 MPrime Minister Boyko Borisov, Minister of Transport, Information Technoloy and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski, Mayor of Sofia Yordanka Fandakova, Director General of National Company Railway Infrastructure (NCRI) Eng. Milcho Lambrev, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Transport and Tourism to Sofia Municipal Council Ekaterina Yordanova and Executive Director of Glavbolgarstroy AD Kalin Peshov cut the ribbon of the completely rehabilitated Sofia Central Railway Station. In the modernization of the railway station complex were invested over BGN 62 million. Financing was provided under Operational Program Transport 2007 - 2013. The site was renovated architecturally, with a new vision of the building and corresponds to all European requirements for energy efficiency, technical safety and accessible environment. Contractor of the design and construction is Association GBS – Sofia Central Station, which includes Glavbolgarstroy AD, Vodstroy 98 AD and Promishleno stroitelstvo holding EAD. The event was attended also by Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Anton Ginev, Deputy Mayor in charge of Investment and Construction Irina Savina, Mayor of Serdica region Eng. Todor Krastev, Deputy General Director of NCRI Eng. Hristo Alexiev, President of CL Podkrepa Eng. Dimitar Manolov and others. Prime Minister Boyko Borisov attended by Minister Ivaylo Moskovski and Sofia Mayor Yoradanka Fandakova viewed the renovated railway station complex before its official opening. After taking a tour including the new sports hall, he said that he is satisfied with the result. “In the days before Easter I can only congratulate the teams that worked here and thank the trade unions. I wish all passengers to feel comfortable. I am glad also for the children and all who want to practice sports activities – they have a nice hall,” said Borisov before cutting the ribbon. We open projects in two or three days which Bulgarians have dreamed about for years to see completed and in suitable way. Since decades the station has not been repaired,” he also said. He reminded how it looked like long ago and stressed that now the building is absolutely different. Prime Minister said that such positive change have taken also Lions’ Bridge, Maria Luiza Blvd.
