New road link from Brussels Boulevard to Sofia Airport opened
BGN 13.7 M invested in the unique facility for the countryMinister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski and Mayor of Sofia Municipality Yordanka Fandakova symbolically opened the newly built road section from Brussels Boulevard to Sofia Airport. The event was also attended by Deputy Mayor of Sofia Municipality for Transport and Transport Communications Evgeni Krusev and Executive Director of Sofia Airport Vladimir Rapondzhiev. The facility is from Brussels Boulevard to Mimi Balkanska Street and is a speed road link between Terminal 2 of the airport and the center of the capital. The total length of the direct route is 1,100 m, which include a 360-meter long highway crossing. In addition to a significant for the city entry artery, the site is also an important part of the accompanying infrastructure for the performance of our country during the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU 2018. The project amounts to a total of BGN 13.7 million; the financing is provided by the budget of the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications (MTITC). Contractor is “Brussels 2015” DZZD, composed of PST Group PLC and Infrastructural Construction EOOD. The construction supervision is carried out by Transconsult-BG OOD. The site was finalized nearly two months ahead of schedule. The deadline for the implementation of the construction works is February 2018. “We have completed the high-speed route to Sofia Airport after more than 14 years of delay. The project was launched in 2004 but was subsequently frozen. In 2009 we found it in a state that prevented its continuation and this made us conserve the site. In 2012 with the decision of the second cabinet of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov we secured the necessary BGN 13.7 million for its completion. It was restarted with great efforts by the Ministry together with Sofia Municipality. An extremely important facility of national significance,” said Ivaylo Moskovski. He explained that the bigger traffic flow at Sofia Airport is from Terminal 2. The Minister also pointed out that with the launching of the new section along with the secure connection with the metro, citizens and travelers are greatly relieved. “I want to thank the construction companies that have accomplished the road link. The construction of the highway crossing is of great complexity from a technical and engineering point of view and so far no such projects have been realized in Bulgaria. The companies made great efforts and managed to finish the facility for the Bulgarian Presidency,” stressed Moskovski and wished a trouble-free traveling to everyone.
