With an official ceremo-ny on Wednesday, August 26th, traffic on the first 8 km of the Sofia metro line 3 was launched. The section has 8 metro stations and connects the neighbourhoods „Krasno selo” and „Hadzhi Dimitar”. „The section was built in four years and I want to thank all the constructors. It couldn’t have been done better”, said the executive director of „Metropo-liten” JSC Prof. Dr. Eng. Stoyan Bratoev, and then reminded of the difficulties the construction went through. Present at the cere-mony were the Mayor of Sofia Municipality Yor-danka Fandakova, Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Rossen Jeliazkov, Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Valentin Yovev, Sofia Municipality Deputy Mayor of Finance and Healthcare Doncho Barbalov, Chairman of Sofia Municipal Council Elen Gerdjikov, eng. Galina Vasileva, Head of the Managing Authority of the Operational Programme „Transport and Transport Infrastructure 2014-2020”, Vladimir Zhitenski, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bulgarian Construction Chamber and Executive Director of GP Group AD, PhD Eng. Vladimir Voutov, member of the BCC’s Management Board, Vice President of Geotechmin OOD and Executive Director of Geos-troy AD, municipal advisors and others.„Today is a day for grati-tude – firstly, to all European taxpayers, who had contri-buted to the grant funding of the project, secondly to the designers, constructors,the Contracting Authority, person-ally to the Mayor Yordanka Fandakova and Prof. Stoyan Bratoev for the tireless efforts in implementing this important policy for transport connectivity. And not least to the colleagues from the Managing Authority of the Operational Programme „Transport and Transport Infrastructure”, said Minister Rossen Jeliazkov at the official ceremony. According to him, the goal of all efforts is to provide the citizens and guests of the capital with a good service, because a large part of our everyday lives is spent in commuting, and the construction of Sofia urban railway creates added value to those using the adjacent infrastructure.
