Of banks and people
The reason for this material is one of the millions private cases in our country in which an ordinary citizen feels squeezed between the need for money and the greed of banks. This particular case is about a Bulgarian builder. He in another tough year of world crisis, caused just by the banks, is forced to beg for an ordinary consumer credit. The man urgently needs BGN 5,000 for the health of his wife. He begs, completes documents, proves solvency and finally receives approval. At the bottom of the document however it becomes clear that the operation for which doctors want BGN 5,000 will actually cost nearly BGN 7,000. Because, when one strikes the balance after all conditions, the so-called APR, the ultimate interest rate reaches 33%. And since this builder, who seeks help from the bank, can find salvation only in the extended hand of friendship, we bothered to find out how and for whom our banking system works, how and for whom the state makes the banking laws and to prompt some questions to the Banking and Financial Supervision Commission and to those who regulate their activity.
