In more than 350 photographs of the exhibition “The revived monument to the Tsar Liberator Alexander II“ is presented the history of one of the most significant Bulgarian monuments and every step of the process of its restoration. The event, dedicated to the 135th anniversary of the Liberation of Bulgaria, was organized by the Humanitarian Foundation of Andrei Scotch “Pokolenie” (Generation), Sofia Municipality and the Bulgarian Construction Chamber. The emphasis is laid on the successful results of the restoration of the monument. Along with the photos are exhibited the four original legs of the main horse figure.

“The Bulgarian Construction Chamber has a tradition to support preservation activities of cultural monuments. This is one of the reasons more than a year ago Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova to approach us with a request for assistance. The monument is a symbol of Sofia and Bulgaria. We managed, along with Sofia Municipality and the financial support of the Pokolenie foundation, which has a long tradition in the restoration of Russian monuments in the world, to realize this patriotic deed,” said at the opening the main restoration coordinator and chairman of the BCC Eng. Svetoslav Glosov.

The monument will be officially opened on 28 February

“I am glad that the exhibition coincides with a remarkable anniversary – 135 years since the Liberation of Bulgaria. The monument, and many other monuments of our post liberation history, was made with the active participation of citizens who collect the money. For this purpose over 50 committees are working throughout the country,” said Dr. Todor Chobanov, deputy Mayor of Sofia.
