Tenders for Lot 3 of Struma Motorway to be announced by year-end
Construction of the motorway is priority for the new programming period
By the end of the year or at the latest by mid-2015 will be announced tenders for the construction of Lot 3 (from Blagoevgrad to Sandanski) of Struma Motorway. This was stated by Minister of Regional Development Desislava Terzieva at a forum entitled “Design of the road part of subsections of Lot 3 of Struma Motorway.” The discussion was organized by the Bulgarian Branch Chamber “Roads”, Bulgarian Branch Association “Road Safety”and Bulgarian Construction Chamber with the media partnership of “Stroitel” newspaper. The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Regional Development Eng. Miroslav Maznev, Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Petar Kirov, Eng. Ivan Boykov, Executive Director of BCC, Nikolay Ivanov, Chairman of BBC “Roads” and of BBA “Road Safety”, Executive Director of the National Company “Strategic Infrastructure Projects” Asen Antov, UACEG rector Prof. Dr. Eng. Krasimir Petrov, representatives of the Managing authority of Operational Program “Transport”, experts from Road Infrastructure Agency, designers, lecturers and others.
“The construction of Lot 3 is a top priority for the government during the programming period 2014 – 2020”, said Minister Terzieva. The route will pass through Kresna gorge and is the most severe and difficult stretch of the motorway because of the need to build a 15-km tunnel. “The facility will have two tubes with two lanes in each direction. The total length of the section is about 65 km and has an estimated value of BGN 1.7 billion. For completion of the motorway will be provided funds under OP “Transport and transport infrastructure,” said Terzieva.
