The World announced Bansko as the winter capital of the Balkans. The prestigious prize was presented on the last day of September at the International Fair of Tourism on a grandiose ceremony in Novi Sad, Serbia. Before 1,000 guests the management of the Balkan Hotel and Restaurant Association that made the offer stood up before the mayor Alexander Kravarov and the rotary Chairman Branko Krivokapich decorated him with the honorary sign. The decision of the Balkan Association was supported also by the European and World Association of Hoteliers. The nomination was made at the beginning of the year and in May chairmen of all Balkan countries visited the resort.
