The conceptual design for the unconstructed part of Hemus Motorway was presented by Minister of Regional Development Desislava Terzieva and Executive Director of National Company “Strategic Infrastructure Projects” (NCSIP) Asen Antov to local authorities and businesses in Pleven.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) Eng. Stefan Chaikov, MPs Vasil Antonov, Petar Dulev and Dimitar Kochkov. Representatives of the public, business and all mayors of Pleven region actively participated. BCC was presented by Eng. Roseta Marinova, chair of the regional office – Pleven.
The project is for a route with a length of 252 km, which will link the already built sections of Hemus Motorway. In a year should start tender procedures for construction of the first stage of the route, which is 60 km, starts from Yablanitsa and ends at the road fork for Pleven and Lovech. By 2016 we plan to have signed agreements with the contractors, said Antov. He assured that soon will be chosen designer for the second part – 85 km to Veliko Tarnovo. There is going to be a call for tender for the design of the third stage – to Belokopitovo.
Hemus Motorway is a priority. We continue to work actively on completion of the construction of the motorway and on preparation of construction of the unfinished section. The motorway has a key role in the economic and social cohesion at regional level. It will have a positive impact on the development of three of the planning regions in Bulgaria – Northwest, North Central and Northeast”. With these words Desislava Terzieva opened the meeting in Pleven. “The prospective study shows that the total number of the population that will benefit from the new route of Hemus Motorway is approximately 3 million. The traffic forecast for 2020 is for nearly 18,000 units on average daily,” she added.
Minister Terzieva said that by the end of 2014 will be made public presentation of the preliminary design – the exact route and options for road junctions for the section from Yablanitsa to the fork Pleven – Lovech. She stressed that the discussions will be conducted in full transparency and committed personally to participate in them.
