BRUSSELS – Mattia Pellegrini has just been nominated new Head of Cabinet of Ferdinando Nelli Feroci, European Commissioner for Industry and Entrepreneurship. After obtaining the European Parliament’s approval, the new Italian Commissioner has announced today the appointment of his first collaborator.
Pellegrini, 40 years, born in Rome, was currently serving as Head of Unit ‘Raw materials, Metals, Minerals and Forest-based industries’ at Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry. Previously a member of the Cabinet of Antonio Tajani, former Vice-President of the European Commission, Mattia Pellegrini took up his post at the European Commission in 2000. First, he was in charge of antitrust decisions in the mergers field. He subsequently moved to the Directorate-General for the Environment (ENV) and, then, to the Directorate-General for Health and Consumers (SANCO).
Holding a degree in Political Science from LUISS „Guido Carli“ University in Rome, he subsequently earned a Master’s degree at the College of Europe in Bruges.
He has two twin daughters, Silvia e Giulia, with his partner Chiara. Last November, he was nominated President of the Brussels section of the Democratic Party (PD).
