“Thank you for the opportunity to be part of this event, which marks the beginning of construction of the first buildings of the complex Sofia Tech Park. I wholeheartedly support this project.” With these words President Rosen Plevneliev launched the construction of four key sites in the first scientific and technological park in the country. These are the areas with laboratories and offices, site infrastructure, business incubator and experimentarium with visitors’ bridge.
The official ceremony was attended by Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova, Anna Yaneva, Deputy Minister of Economy and Energy, Academician Stefan Vodenicharov, Chairman of BAS, Prof. Dr. Eng. Marin Hristov, Rector of the Technical University, Associate Fellow Prof. Ivan Ilchev, Rector of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, Associate Fellow Prof. Dr. Vanyo Mitev, Rector of the Medical University in Sofia, Tsveta Avdzhieva, Mayor of Mladost District, representatives of the ministries of defense and transport, information technology and communications, and a number of diplomats.
“The dynamic time we live in determines the need for strategic decisions that support the development of science and business. “Sofia Tech Park” is namely such a visionary, large-scale solution. The implementation of this project will allow our country to find its place among high-tech European countries and will support innovation, added value and future industries that will find a place in our country as well. We want to develop the Bulgarian economy but we should know its weaknesses. It is necessary to strengthen the innovation activities in enterprises. The project has the potential to become a symbol of technological progress in the country. “Sofia Tech Park” is the heart of the first technological eco system in Bulgaria,” added Plevneliev.
On the territory of the former military base “Fourth kilometer” in Sofia is going to work a scientific-research infrastructure to support innovative business. About 20,000 square meters new and renovated space will be created. The park will have applied research laboratories, general incubator, innovative lecture, educational, discussion forums, places to demonstrate the new technology, car parking and pedestrian green spaces.
The experimentarium with a visitors’ bridge will be implemented by Union “Expo Tech Park” which includes “Trace Group Hold” Plc, “Planex” Ltd. and “Ivo Petrov Architects” Ltd.
The business incubator will be constructed by association “Sofia Tech Park” which consists of three participants – “Berko – 90 – Berkovski & Co”, “Advance 2001” Ltd. and “Nivel” Ltd. The site has an area of 11, 840 square meters (including basement), and its indicative cost is BGN 9.263 million excluding VAT. For the incubator will not be built a new building; already existing one will be renovated.
The construction of laboratories and offices is entrusted to union “Telecomplect – Tilev Architects” OCAC which includes “Telecomplect” Jsc and “Tilev Architects”.
Union “Engineering Park’’ OCAC will construct the site infrastructure. It includes companies “GP Group” Ltd, “BS Project” and “Ponsstroyengineering” EAD. Object of the contract is construction of site technical infrastructure with alley and engineering networks. There will also be a park with paths, paved square area, skateboard ground and rope park; two multifunctional playgrounds and several tennis courts. In it there will be water pools and sports service kiosk.
The irrigation system serving the park will be powered by drilling wells. There will also be deploying elements of visual communication. The park space will be about 50,000 square meters and sports grounds – about 6,600 square meters. The science and technology park will have ground parking with an area of 900 square meters. The indicative value of the contract is nearly BGN 17.7 million excluding VAT.
