“We start working on the extension of the second metro line along Cherni vrah Boulevard – from James Bourchier Boulevard to Srebarna Street. Of course, such construction cannot go without problems but they will not be dramatic. So far everything goes according to plan. We met with residents in the area and told them what traffic organization would be introduced during construction of the new stretch. We shortened the duration of construction to 22 months. The implementation of such a facility for a period less than two years is a very difficult task and this is the last section to be built in such a short period,” said to “Stroitel” newspaper Executive Director of “Metroplitan” PLC Prof. Dr. Eng. Stoyan Bratoev. He and Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova inspected the construction of the metro in the area of Sofia Airport.
The investment for continuation of the second line will amount to EUR 21.7 million. Its length is 1.3 km. “One kilometer is worth EUR 16.7 million. This is the lowest value for construction of the underground section of the metro so far. The amount is less even than Lot 2 “Mladost 1” – Business Park in “Mladost 4” District where we got an average of EUR 17 million per km,” said Eng. Bratoev. Financing of the project is under OP “Transport and Transport Infrastructure 2014 – 2020” (OPTTI). Construction of the stretch started with funds of Sofia Municipality. For beginning of the implementation are provided BGN 10 million to be recovered under the operational program. To the question “Is there a risk the project not to receive subsidies from the EU?” “Metropolitan” chief replied “Always exists a risk. The project is included in OPTTI but it has not yet been signed. If not approved, we have to find a solution and get it financed with own funds.”
