Amendments in the Law on the Structure of the Territory concerning illegal construction

The amendments in the Law on the Structure of the Territory (LST) will be made in the Council of Ministers by the end of the year. They will precise the role, engagements and punishments of municipalities and of the National Construction Control Directorate connected with the control on construction activity. That announced before journalists the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Rosen Plevneliev. The amendments aim at specifying in a categorical way the functions of municipalities and of the National Construction Control Directorate. “Comfortable diarchy is apparent, that is why we have to specify the responsibility for the different types of buildings. Clear punishments are necessary that should be definitely fixed, he is categorical. According to his words, the National Construction Control Directorate will be responsible for the issue of building permits for sites of the high categories of national importance while in the remaining cases the responsibility will be for the municipalities. According to the minister, at the moment there are not enough mechanisms which should punish mayors and chief architects of built-up areas because of allowed illegal construction.
