Approximately 119 km of new roads are to be built in the year 2019
The indicative value of the projects is over BGN 950 MillionDuring 2019 nearly 119 km of new roads will be under construction, the funding for which will be provided by the budget, by the Operational Programme „Transport and transport infrastructure 2014 – 2020“ and by the Connecting Europe Facility. The indicative value of these projects is over BGN 950 Million. This was announced by the Minister of the Regional Development and Public Works Petya Avramova in her first per 2019 interview for „Stroitel“ Newspaper. According to what she said, during this year will be launched the realization of two+- key sections of the first-class road from the Kalotina Border Checkpoint to Sofia. „They are part of the Trans European transport corridor number 10, connecting London to Sofia, Istanbul to Calcutta, and being the shortest way from the Western Europe to the Near and Middle East. The length of the first section between Kalotina and Dragoman, is 14,5 km and for its construction a contract is already signed at an amount of BGN 165 Million. For the second section, covering the distance from Dragoman to Slivnitsa with a length of 16,9 km, the constract is yet to be signed. The modernisation of the road will improve cross border relations between Serbia and Bulgaria and thus conditions will be created for faster and safer transportation”, said Avramova. A matter of priority of the Ministry of of the Regional Development and Public Works (MRDPW) will be not only the construction of new road infrastructure, but also the rehabilitation of the existing one, which is in poor condition. Major overhaul works will be executed of 709 km of the Republican network. The amount of the investments for these activities is nearly BGN 516 Million. The works on the „Struma“ and „Hemus“ Motorways will continue as well. „New market niches for investments will become available for the construction industry, and my wish to Bulgarian companies is to make the most of these opportunities”, told Petya Avramova for „Stroitel“ Newspaper.
